Some of Katherine's favourite writers.
Tess Gerritsen is a doctor turned thriller writer. Brilliant books! I love her series with Detective Jane Rizzoli.
Michael Robotham is an Australian author whose thrilling crime novels are set in the UK and elsewhere, and who uses a rotating cast of characters to excellent effect.
Daniel Silva writes a wonderful series featuring art restorer and spy Gabriel Allon. Allon tends to be in the middle of touching up the Sistine--well, not exactly, but deep in some similarly important work--when the call comes in that his spy skills are urgently needed. Excellent reading.
Karin Slaughter writes the fantastic Grant County series as well as standalones. Tremendous stories and masterful writing.
Dennis Lehane wrote the great Mystic River. Check out his PI series with the characters Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro. Fantastic stuff.
Michael Connelly is the creator of the great Harry Bosch, LA police detective who just can’t escape trouble.
Harlan Coben writes a series with the crime-fighting sports agent Myron Bolitar, and numerous incredible stand-alones.
Robert Crais writes the impressive series about LA private eye Elvis Cole and the equally smashing series focusing on Cole's sidekick Joe Pike.
Laura Lippman writes a series featuring Baltimore journo-turned-PI Tess Monaghan, plus fantastic stand-alones.
Leigh Redhead is a great friend of mine! We first met at Varuna years ago and found a mutual background of writing lurid rip-offs of Trixie Belden books when we were in high school to entertain our friends. She uses her experience working as a stripper to incredible effect in her wonderfully funny and sexy novels, Peepshow, Rubdown, Cherry Pie and Thrill City.
James Lee Burke writes a few different series, all of which make my heart sing. Go now. Read.
Kathryn Fox is a Sydney GP who writes gripping thrillers about Anya Crichton, pathologist and forensic physician.
P D Martin writes a series about profiler Sophie Anderson who works with the FBI and finds her psychic ability sometimes a help, sometimes a hindrance.
Annie Proulx What can I say? The Shipping News would be my desert island pick, then I’d smuggle in Bad Dirt and Close Range as well.
Kate Grenville is an Australian author whose books have won numerous international prizes. My favourites are Lilian's Story and Dark Places. Wonderful work.
Interesting paramedic sites.
Peter Canning blogs about his paramedic work in Connecticut. He's also has written two great books about it.
Neenaw. This is the blog of Suzi Brent, an ambulance controller in London. She doesn't blog anymore but the archives are well worth reading. And don't miss her unforgettable book.
Randomreality. The blog of Tom Reynolds, an ambulance officer, also in London. He no longer blogs either, but again, those archives! He has two gripping books too.

Graeme Hague writes hair-raising horror, crime, historical fiction, and music and lyrics too.
Kim Wilkins is the author of over twenty books. She writes speculative fiction, contemporary epic romance, and fiction for children and young adults, and teaches writing both at university and in the community.
